We often get asked whether or not we offer hair extensions and if this popular service is part of our cosmetology program. The answer is yes! We offer beginner level hair extension training as part of our cosmetology program here at the American Beauty School (ABS) located in the Bronx, New York. Here’s how they fit into our beauty education.
Although we don’t provide a stand-alone class for hair extensions, our cosmetology program includes the basics of braiding and braid extensions, as well as fundamental wig making and hair additions. In our curriculum, these courses, as well as others found below, offer a foundation of skills that can help students prepare to enter the beauty industry. We know that understanding can be done best by application, which is why we give students the chance to practice real-world salon skills. This is a great way to build a solid foundation so students can move past the basics and challenge themselves to think outside of the box!
Also included in our cosmetology program curriculum:
- Hair Cutting
- Color Theory
- Two Strand Twists
- Chemical Restructuring – Perms and Relaxers
- Chemical Treatments
- Client Relationships
- Business Development
For additional learning opportunities, we schedule specialty workshops throughout the year. Torain, the inventor of Fusion Hair Extensions, is one of the presenters that has worked with ABS in the past. He typically comes by twice a year, although he’s not guaranteed. In these workshops, we bring people outside of the school, like Torain, to come and share their knowledge of certain techniques and topics. We encourage students to attend and recommend these workshops for those who want to learn more and improve upon their skills!
